A new hospital for Stockport is the only proper solution to the ageing buildings at Stepping Hill Hospital. After the outpatients B department at Stepping Hill Hospital closed in November 2023, a new long-term solution is needed. There should be a new central hospital site at One Stockport (Merseyway) providing outpatients services, and expanding to provide critical departments at an accessible, central location.

Conservative MPs, including the outgoing MP for Hazel Grove, have been criticised after voting against a Liberal Democrat amendment which would have committed the government to improving GP and ambulance wait times.
A staggering 174 out of every 1,000 NHS patients in Stockport – more than one in six residents – who have been referred for treatment are still waiting it to start – the fifth worst performing area of the country.
