Lisa Smart MP took the opportunity to raise uncertainty around funding for Stepping Hill at the Chancellor’s question time in Parliament yesterday [04/09/2024].

A statement from the Department of Health and Social Care had stated that they would provide investment and reform, no details have been forthcoming since of what that would include and when.

Lisa Smart said: “Stepping Hill needs urgent repairs now, and the long-term solution is an accessible, additional site in the centre of Stockport, near to the transport interchange.

“We have had the promise of investment, but fine words butter no parsnips. When doctors are wading through water to get to patients, we need action now.”

The Treasury response again offered no specifics as to the amounts available or timescales, instead offering a “comprehensive review” and a “realistic timeframe”.

Lisa continued: “I will keep up the pressure until we get the result that we need. Patients across Stockport and the surrounding areas deserve better.”
