After winning a substantial 6.500 majority in Hazel Grove constituency, new MP Lisa Smart is already getting down to business with her constituency work.

Within minutes of the result, constituents had already started getting in touch with their issues, making it clear the demand for a new local champion to stand up for them.

Lisa said: “One of the most important messages that we heard time and time again from people was that they need someone to stand up for them.

“I will be in Westminster from Monday, and using that platform to champion the issues faced by people in this area is a privilege, but it is something that people have said is needed.

“It has been wonderful to hear from so many people with their congratulations, but the number of people who have already reached out to me with their issues just shows the challenge ahead.”

As well as winning the Hazel Grove and Cheadle constituencies in Stockport, the dramatic results mean that Lisa is part of the largest ever group of Liberal Democrat MPs at Westminster, giving them a unique position to fight for positive change for their constituencies and the country.

Lisa continued: “The issues that people have brought up with me time and again – sewage dumping, health and social care and the cost of living – are my top priorities. It is a real opportunity for us to challenge this new Government to do better on the issues that people told us have to change. I will be fighting for Stepping Hill Hospital to get the investment it needs and a new additional hospital site in Stockport from Day One. I can’t wait to get cracking.”
