Heritage support an important part of Woodbank Hall future

A long-term future for Woodbank Hall in Stockport is possible, says local MP Lisa Smart, after meeting with the Heritage Fund to discuss opportunities for funding for the site.
Stockport Council has stepped in with repairs to stop the rot, removing asbestos and making sure that the building is not damaged by water getting in, and the next stage is delivering an achievable plan for its future.
Liberal Democrat MP Lisa Smart said: “Woodbank Hall deserves a future where it has a real purpose, and one where the community is genuinely part of that future.
“It is a real heritage asset, and so it is important to talk to funders such as the Heritage Fund so we know exactly what plans have to include to get the funding we need. We’ll be continuing discussions with the Council, and working with them to get ideas in front of residents as soon possible, to ensure that they are a real part of this building’s future.”
The MP also discussed other opportunities for accessing funding for projects across the area, in particular at Marple Locks, and was impressed at the Fund’s work supporting a range of projects outside of the buildings themselves.
Lisa Smart added: “I would encourage any organisation to speak to the Fund about heritage projects they are working on – not just bricks and mortar, but ongoing cultural projects that build our community. Heritage is not just about buildings – it’s about people, culture and both our rich traditions and future.”
